James Owen Sullivan, (lahir 9 Februari 1981 – meninggal 28 Desember 2009 pada umur 28 tahun; lebih dikenal dengan nama The Rev atau The Reverend Tholomew Plague) adalah seorang drummer sekaligus penyanyi latar untuk grup musik Avenged Sevenfold. The Rev juga menjadi lead vocal pada grup musik Pinkly Smooth.

Karier

Ia memperoleh sepasang stik drum pada usia lima tahun, dan menerima drum sendiri pada usia ke sepuluh. Hanya dalam waktu satu tahun, dia sudah bermain "The Black Page" dengan mahasiswa dalam ansambel perkusi yang dilakukan oleh gurunya.
Di SMA, bergabung Avenged Sevenfold sebagai salah satu anggota pendiri band ini. Sullivan adalah drummer band ska band Suburban Legends. Pada usia delapan belas tahun dia merekam album pertama dengan Avenged Sevenfold berjudul "Sounding the Seventh Trumpet". Kemudian dalam hidupnya ia dipengaruhi oleh drumer Vinnie Paul, Mike Portnoy, dan Terry Bozzio. Dia bahkan memiliki pengaruh "visual", Tommy Lee, di mana ia berkomentar bahwa "Saya tidak menyangka akan memiliki salah satu dari mereka." Kemampuan Sullivan yang disebutnya "'The Double-ride' adalah suatu teknik yang dapat didengar pada lagu" Almost Easy "di mana dia bermain ganda sampai pada tempo cepat antara double bass dan cymbal naik. Kematian

Tubuh Sullivan ditemukan di rumahnya pada tanggal 28 Desember 2009 di usia 28. Kematiannya dilaporkan sebagai penyebab alami namun hasil otopsi yang dilakukan pada tanggal 30 Desember 2009 hasilnya tidak meyakinkan. Pada tanggal 9 Juni 2010, penyebab kematian itu terungkap setelah intoksikasi akut polydrug yang disebabkan efek gabungan dari oksikodon (OxyContin), oxymorphone (metabolit oksikodon), diazepam (Valium), nordiazepam (metabolit diazepam) dan alkohol. Kardiomegali (pembesaran jantung) dilaporkan sebagai "kondisi yang signifikan" yang mungkin telah memainkan peran dalam kematiannya.
Pada tanggal 5 Januari 2010, sebuah pemakaman pribadi diadakan untuk Sullivan, dan sehari kemudian ia dimakamkan di Huntington Beach, California. Avenged Sevenfold mendedikasikan album kelima mereka, Nightmare,untuk Sullivan.

 Buried Alive adalah salah satu lagu terkuat kita yang pernah kami tulis. Kami tidak yakin tentang hal itu bisa terjadi, maka kami berpikir seperti, “Oh Tuhan, apa yang kita lakukan?” kata M. Shadows. Larry Jacobson, manajer kami berpikir Buried Alive ini adalah lagu terbaik band yang pernah kami tulis.

2. Carry ON 

 Menurut gw lagu ini adalah lagu metal yang sempurna lirik lagu yang dapat membakar semangat orang yang mendengar dan permainan gitar tingkat dewa jadi menurut gw lagu ini pantes dimasukan ke dalam daftar ini

3. Seize the Day (City of Evil, 2005)

Sejatinya ini lagu sedih. Tentang seorang pria yang dipenjara lantaran tertangkap polisi ketika merampok demi 'menafkahi sang pacar'. Di akhir cerita, sang pacar yang sedang hamil itu meninggal dunia karena kecelakaan.

4. Almost Easy (Avenged Sevenfold, 2007)

Saya suka melihat aksi The Rev di lagu ini. Dia terlihat seperti gurita yang tangan dan kakinya kemana-mana ketika memainkan drum.

5. Afterlife (Avenged Sevenfold, 2007)

Yang paling menonjol dari lagu ini adalah permainan gitar Synyster Gates. Mellody-nya cepet banget.

6. A Little Piece of Heaven (Avenged Sevenfold, 2007)

Ini lagu yang 'paling beda' dari lagu-lagu yang lain. Konsep lagu ini sangat berbeda dengan lagu-lagu a7x yang lainnya dengan diiringi musik opera dan diselingi jeritan-jeritan dan kata-kata f*ck menjadikan lagu ini wajib didengar menurut gw lagu ini sedikit mengandung nuansa horor setuju nggak?

7. Dear God (Avenged Sevenfold, 2007)

Jujur nih, Dear God adalah lagu pertama yang gw tahu dari A7X  menurut gw lagu ini adalah lagu a7x paling terkenal di indonesia kenapa karena setiap kali gw ke warnet pasti ada aja satu atau dua orang yang lagi mendengarkan lagu ini nggak percaya coba buktiin aja sendiri

8. Welcome to the Family (Nightmare, 2010)

Semua permainan drum di album ini diisi oleh Mike Portnoy, jadi jangan heran di lagu ini kental banget dengan permainan drum.

9. So Far Away (Nigthmare, 2010)

Lagu ini bercerita tentang The Rev. Lagunya sedih banget. Teman saya yang baru pertama kali melihat video klip ini saja langsung merasakan kesedihan itu. Entah menghayati isi lagu atau sedih karena nggak ngerti artinya.

10. Danger Line

 Lagu ini awalnya berjudul Military Death, yang juga berada di album konsep. Mereka menyimpannya di album ini. Menurut M. Shadows lagu ini adalah kisah tentang seorang prajurit. Dimulai dengan keluarganya, melalui pertempuran, dan berakhir dengan kematian-Nya di medan perang.

Profil Personil Avenged Sevenfold

Profil personil Avenged Sevenfold
M. Shadows

Lead singer dari Avenged sevenfold sekaligus yang menemukan bandnya. M. Shdows adalah salah satu personil asli dari Avenged Sevenfold. Nama lengkapnya adalah Matthew Charles Sanders. Dia lahir pada tanggal 31 Juli tahun 1981. Dia mendapatkan nama panggungnya karena dia seorang yang “Darker” karakter, tapi kemudian dia tidak mau nama Matt menjadi bagian dari namanya jadi dia lebih suka untuk memutuskan menamai dirinya M. Shadows. Dia mempunyai pacar bernama Valery yang pernah bernyanyi bersama KoRn. Pernah ikut band bernama Succesful Failure. Bisa memainkan drum, gitar, dan piano.
Synyster Gate

Lahir 7 Juli tahun 1981 dengan nama lengkap Brian Elwin Haner Jr. Bergabung dengan Avenged Sevenfold pada tahun 2001. Mempunyai proyek sampingan bersama The Rev bernama Pinkly Smooth. Bersekolah di Ocean View High School. Dia mempunyai toko pakaian sendiri bernama Syn Gates Clothing. Dia juga telah memenangkan the Young Shredder Award dan the Guitarist of the Year Award. Synyster Gate juga disponsori oleh Gitar Schecter. Tatto pertamanya adalah nomor satu di jempolnya. Dia pernah menjadi tamu dan rekaman bersama dengan Good Charlotte di lagu The River. Synyster Gate juga mahir bermain piano. Dia dulu ke Musicians Institute di Hollywood California.
Zacky Vengeance

Nama lengkapnya adalah Zachary James Baker. Lahir tanggal 11 Desember 1981. Dia sudah bermain gitar sejak umur 13 tahun menggunakan tangan kiri. Mempunyai saudara bernama Matthew dan mempunyai saudara perempuan bernama Zina. Dia juga mempunyai toko pakaian sendiri seperti Synyster Gate bernama Zacky V Presents. Mempunyai anjing bernama Ichabod C. Vengeance. Disponsori oleh Gitar Schecter. Posisinya sebagai gitar Rythem di Avenged Sevenfold. Dia juga salah satu personil asli Aveged Sevenfold dan menemukannya bersama M. Shadows. Dialah yang membuat julukan atau singkatan A7X.

Jhonny Christ

Lahir pada tanggal 18 November tahun 1984 dengan nama lengkap Jonathan Lewis Seward. Personil termuda di Avenged Sevenfold. Dia tidak bersekolah di SMA yang sama dengan yang lain. Bertemu dengan mereka melalui kakak tertuanya. Johnny adalah Bassist ketiga untuk Avenged Sevenfold. Dia juga personil terpendek di band hanya 5’4″.

Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan

Lahir pada tanggal 9 Februari tahun 1981 dengan nama lengkap James Owen Sullivan. Dia mendapatkan drum setnya sendiri pada umur 3 tahun. Dia juga pernah dikeluarkan dari Sekolah Katolik pada tahun ke-3. Mempunyai proyek sampingan bersama Synyster Gate bernama Pinkly Smooth, yang mana dia Lead Singernya dan dia juga bermain drum untuk band itu. The Rev juga yang menulis lagu baru Avenged Sevenfod berjudul A Little Piece of Heaven. Dia juga yang menemukan suara tertawa, nyanyian, dan teriakan di dalamnya. Saat dia masih remaja dia pernah terlihat berjalan-jalan menggunakan kimono berwarna cerah.

Kematian Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan

Jimmy ‘The Rev’ Sullivan merupakan drummer Avenged Sevenfold yang walaupun berperan aktif mengisi materi album namun tidak sempat menjalani proses recording. The Rev meninggal pada tanggal 28 Desember 2009 dan membuat penggemar Avenged Sevenfold terkejut. Semua tidak menyangka dengan kematiannya. Setelah hampir 6 bulan belum jelas, kemarin tepatnya tanggal 9 Juni 2010 http://www.rollingstone.com merilis berita konfirmasi penyebab kematian The Rev.Setelah menunggu kabar otopsi dari pihak berwajib mengenai penyebab kematian The Rev, akhirnya dilakukan konfirmasi dari Orange County Deputy Coroner oleh Mitchell Sigal bahwa The Rev meninggal karena overdosis obat terlarang dan alkohol atau dalam situs sumber disebut “Avenged Sevenfold drummer Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan died on December 28, 2009 from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs and alcohol”. Dalam pemeriksaan yang dilakukan pada jenazah The Rev ditemukan beberpa zat yang berbahaya seperti Oxycodone, Oxymorphone, Diazepam / Nordiazepam dan etanol. Oxycodone adalah penghilang rasa sakit yang pengganti Kodein, Oxymorphone adalah obat penghilang rasa sakit mirip dengan morfin, Diazepam / Nordiazepam adalah obat kecemasan dan etanol adalah minuman keras dalam alkohol. Dalam penyelidikan juga ditemukan bahwa hati The Rev juga mengalami pembesaran yang tidak wajar.
My Perspective
Menurut sudut pandang saya sebagai seorang fans, konsumsi zat-zat berbahaya penahan rasa sakit tersebut mungkin dilakukan The Rev untuk tetap tampil prima dalam setiap penampilan Avenged Sevenfold yang memang membutuhkan super speed dan extra energy. Dengarkan lagu Beast And The Harlot, Almot Easy, Missing In Action, atau Second Heartbeat maka kita akan sadar bahwa butuh tenaga super untuk memainkan ritme drum seperti lagu-lagu tersebut. Well,, dia juga manusia biasa guys.

Sejarah Terbentuknya Avenged Sevenfold

  Postingan pertama ini gw  Buat para penggemar avengged 7 fold diluar sana yang belum tau sejarah terbentuknya avengged sevenfold ini sejarah lengkapnya 
Avenged Sevenfold (juga dikenal sebagai A7X), adalah band beraliran metal core yang berasal dari Huntington Beach, California.
Mereka berasal dari tempat yang sama dimana kesemuanya kecuali Synyster Gates berasal dari sekolah yang sama, yaitu Huntington Beach High School. Mereka terbentuk di awal tahun 1999 dimana personil awalnya hanya beranggotakan empat orang saja yaitu M.Shadows, Zacky Vengeance, The Rev dan Justin Sane (Bass).
Nama Avenged Sevenfold diambil dari salah satu kisah di dalam bibel. Walaupun mengambil nama dari bibel, M.Shadows mengakui bahwa bandnya tidak terlalu religius ataupun bertujuan untuk menyebarkan suatu kepercayaan religi atau poltik kepada penggemarnya.
Avenged Sevenfold memiliki lambang yang merekan namakan “Deathbat”. Lambang ini dirancang oleh teman semasa SMA mereka, Micah Montague. Lambang ini selalu muncul di setiap konser mereka dan hampir selalu ada di setiap album mereka.

Album pertama mereka, Sounding the Seventh Trumpet direkam ketika mereka masih berumur 18 tahun. Album ini dirilis dengan label Good Life Recordings, tetapi setelah gitaris Synyster Gates masuk Avenged Sevenfold, album ini dirilis ulang dengan label Hopeless Records. Lagu “To End The Rapture” juga direkam ulang, kali ini ditambahkan dengan permainan gitar Synyster Gates.Pada saat Proses perekaman album ini bassit mereka yang mulanya Justin Sane diganti oleh Johnny Christ. Sampai saat ini belum diketahui penyebab terusirnya Justin Sane dari band tersebut.

Pada tahun 2003, mereka pun merilis full-length album kedua mereka yang bertajuk Waking The Fallen. Album ini terjual sebanyak 175.000 copy di Amerika Serikat dan mencapai peringkat 12 di dalam Independent Album Chart di Amerika Serikat.

Tahun 2005, Amerika Serikat tengah jenuh dengan musik hip-hop dan pop yang merajalela, lalu Avenged Sevenfold merilis album mereka City of Evil tepatnya pada tanggal 8 Juni, 2005. Hits single Bat Country merupakan lagu metal/rock pertama yang merajai MTV TRL. Mereka mempopulerkan kembali solo gitar dengan duet gitaris Synyster Gates dan Zacky Vengeance yang benar-benar memanaskan area moshpit. Album tersebut mendapat sertifikat gold dan memenangkan predikat Best New Artist in a Video di MTV VMA 2006 untuk lagu Bat Country.

Tahun 2007, mereka kembali masuk studio untuk merekam lagu terbaru mereka untuk studio album ke-5 mereka yang bernama Avenged Sevenfold. Awal Agustus 2007, mereka menjalani tur Asia Pasifik mereka, dan sempat mampir di Indonesia dan memainkan lagu mereka pertama kali di depan publik. Lagu yang berjudul Almost Easy tersebut mendapat sambutan hangat dari penggemar di seluruh dunia. Ketika itu band punk Jogjakarta Endang Soekamti didaulat menjadi band pembuka.

Dan kabarnya pada tahun 2009 Avenged Sevenfold merilis album mereka yang berjudul Eternal Soldier. Dan katanya album ini genrenya lebih ke alternatif dan soft rock, ini mungkin dikarenakan Mat Shadow yang sudah tidak bisa scream lagi. Dan juga mereka ingin mengulang kesuksesan seperti pada lagu Dear God yg melejit. Tapi masih mengusung genre metalcore. Yah sebut saja genre ini crossover.

Dan album terbaru mereka yang dirilis pada 27 Juli 2010 diberi nama NIGHTMARE. Album beraliran Heavy metal dan hardrock. Album ini didekasikan bagi drummer mereka yaitu The Rev yang meninggal pada desember 2009. Di album ini The Rev membuat lagu yang berjudul “Fiction”.dan itu merupakan lagu terkahir yang dibuatnya karena 3 hari setelah ia menyerahkan lagu itu dia telah berpulang..

Personil – personil Avenged Sevenfold sekarang adalah M. Shadows ,Synyster Gates,Zacky Vengeance,Johnny Christ. Sedangkan drummer sempat berganti setelah meninggalnya The Rev dengan diisi oleh drummer  dunia Mike Portnoy (drummer Dream Theater) sebagai  drummer penggati sementara,dan baru – baru ini berita mengatakan kalau Mike Portnoy digantikan oleh Arin Ilejay mantan drummer band Confide sebagai pengisi drum mereka pada tur saat ini.
